Hello Don, I think this web-site is a marvellous idea! I loved looking at your paintings and your sense of humour. Anyone caught up in the business of trying to push paint around to make pictures, surely needs one. By the way, the Plockton Water painting was from Ray Campbell Smith's book on Fresh Watercolour. I have one just like it! I think that working from life is probably the best way to improve and observe, at least that what we're always told. Although, I'm a screaming scaredy-cat myself and have never yet painted a picture on the spot! (I'm getting around it....slowly ;) I hope you keep on going and enjoying it. Thanks for sharing your work with us. Kind regards Rachel.

I love water colours and thought that your collection was charming. I was surprised that the paintings had such a "substantial" look instead of the more "washed" look of most water colours.

Nice pictures, but they seem very tight and representational, rather than your interpretation or feeling about what you see. This is not meant as criticism your pictures are better than mine, but advice to make your work more personal. Best wishes

Nice work! I like the water effects. I've only just begun watercolour, and so far am still stuck on still life, haven't braved the landscapes yet. I will keep trying. Also I like the one with the farm dogs looking out the window.

Regarding your David Bellamy inspiration, whose work I admire, I also noticed, upon taking a closer look, that your trees also look like David's. The trees are the only landscape features that I dislike. They almost always look the same, as if a "stamp" created them. They look too "twiggy". I admire your courage, confidence, and talent. I paint for a hobby and would consider myself lucky if I even came close to painting one of your "twiggy trees". Good stuff and God Bless!

I liked your paintings. Is it not possible to have larger versions of them for when you click on the thumbnails. the sizes they are just now just don't allow the viewer to get a decent look at them - and they do look worth having a closer look at. I've just started a web page with some of my latest stuff. I went to Glasgow School of Art but didn't shine exactly and only 12 years on feel I want to have another go at it all. I'd like it if you would have a look at my stuff on my web site above and maybe give me your opinion and any advice you feel would help me. Robert Leitch

Hi! I liked your watercolours. Being no judge of art, my opinion is very personal, I just like them, the style and the motifs, especially those from the Highlands. Allright, I can tell you still got some work to do,artwize, but what the heck! I´ve never been to the Highlands, living in Sweden I´ve only seen pictures of it. Love to go there one day. The birds were very good, you´ve got them very much their natural look. (I can tell that because we´re often having the chance of studying them close up, or what´s left of them after the cat has been dragging them around....!) Well, just wanted to say hello and thanks! :-)

Great idea to exhibit ones own paintings on the net. Is it too costly to make full screen versions? I especially like the stone ring at Castlerigg. Are there plans for more stone circle paintings?

Enjoyed your paintings. I am retired and have just started to learn watercolour painting. I also am very fond of David Bellamy's work and would love to be able to get a painting to look a little like his. Keep up the good work, especially your landscapes. Great.

Hello Don, Lynne Fox here, a friend of Sandra's. She recently sent me a scanned in copy of the seascape painting you sent to her and I was duly impressed. It's beautiful. I've enjoyed looking at your artwork in this gallery very much - makes me homesick for Britain! Continued success with your art.

nice paintings...do you do them commercially? or just for fun..I know many of the sites shown and they are very good , capture the feeling of the places..I find a camera cannot do that..do you? I'm a Scot who lives and works in oxford, and I collect watercolours of the hills...would be interestyed to know if you hold exhibitions. Anyway, well done, nice site, bye for now.

Don, A pleasure to view your images. Simple, direct composition and colouring. Evocative. I hope you find time to do more! I had the pleasure of visiting the UK last year, so recognize the feeling. Bear some relation to our own stormy west coast in Canada. I have listed you in a web site that features tools for watercolour artists: www.islandnet.com/~doherty/watercolour/ It goes live in about a week. I'll include a link to your site. Can you add a link back to me? Thanks. ---Daniel

Hi, Don, This is Jill Thompson. friend of Sandra's.. Appreciate you painting of the canal It is very evocative, but I am also going to Wales in three days, My husband loves canals, and deserted factories and slate piles (not slag heaps though.) he is one of those "loves industialist kinds of persons).... I don't care..just want to be here. Jill is a famous television personality...retired. She doesn't want me to say /write this, but I am doing it anyway. She was a television news features presentor On the CBC..but is retired now. And now I am going to try to send this. I couldn't gethe message to send..and I got and error message. I wonder is it me (or is is Memorex!! ) I am about to find out. Cheers, Sandra Ireland And Jill Thompson(who isn't connected to the internet yet)] We made Welsh cakes this morning.

Dear Don, Appreciate your Canal boat. Very evocative. Maybe because I'm heading to Wales in 3 days, and my husband is an industrial heritage freak. (He loves canals, history, maps, slate piles...not slag. Deserted factories.... I can hardly wait. I am a famous television personality... but I'm retired..and tired and Sandra is full of it!! You would enjoy this moment of tea and Welsh cakes while we discuss the fine points of your style and technique!! Cheers, Jill Thompson (who really did work for the CBC television.. (and she is still famous ...Sandra) And Sandra who has had 2 cups of tea, and is cut off from this moment of reality by caffeine. Cheers..talk to yu later.

Yes that is Plockton! You have just taken a little "Artist " license! You painted Rhu, Plockton, I was born in one of the houses you have on the picture!! Where you changed the real picture is on the left side. The sea does not end ther ! You left out the stepping stones! Do you know how Plockton sick it made me to see that picture. Have you still got it ? Is it for sale? What would it cost? I look forward to hearing from you. Regards Helen Liebe (MacDonald)

Congratulations with your gallery of watercolour paintings. My wife and I both like your work very much because we adore watercolour. Sent by your daughter Sarah! I know several of the places in your pictures - Three Shires Head (though I haven't been there for decades), Western Scotland (my parents live in Oban now) and the N Yorks Moors - I helped take a party from Idsall School to do the Lyke Wake Walk once. This form doesn't word-wrap - is it supposed to? But I shall have to get sarah to pick your brains for me in due course - you know a number of things I don't! Regards RichardF WWS
